Christmas is a magical time of year and for many parents it’s an experience we want to cherish with our kids for years to come. Creating a memorable experience during the holiday season doesn’t have to break the budget. You can preserve those warm fuzzy feelings you hope they carry with them for years to come in several ways. Sure, there’s the traditional experiences we all look forward to like decorating the tree and trading gifts, but if really want to do something special to build up excitement and create those warm memories, have a look at the list we have created below. Hopefully, we can make a Christmas the kids will never forget.
1. Write a Letter to Santa
Tell Santa how great he is, give an elf a compliment, ask for a couple of cool gifts, then decorate. Get creative! You could even turn this into a craft project. Maybe use some stickers and glitter. Or draw Santa a picture of his reindeer. A cool effect is aging your paper using wet tea bags and ripping the edges. And don’t forget to address it to the North Pole before you post it!
2. Have a Christmas Themed Movie Night
What’s especially fun about themed movie nights is the extra details you can include to make it a more memorable experience. Aside from the Christmas movies (some common kids favourites include The Santa Claus, The Grinch and Elf), you may like to create Christmas themed snacks, wear matching antlers, dress like elves, the options are endless.
3. Prepare Some Yummy Christmas Cookies
One of the most awesome things about Christmas is all the yummy food! And what’s so special about the holidays is everyone is normally home to help make it. Kids love eating food they’ve helped create just as much as sharing them with friends and relatives, giving them the opportunity to show off their cooking skills! There are many kid friendly recipes online you can use.
4. Don’t Forget About Feeding the Reindeer!
It’s customary to leave out milk and cookies for Santa. He has a big night ahead of him and needs the energy and stamina to press on. But what about the reindeer? If anything, they probably have the hardest job so don’t forget to leave some reindeer food out on the front lawn for them before heading to bed. Maybe some carrots? Or you could go full magic mode and prepare a special magical reindeer diet of glitter and seeds!
5. Snowy Santa Footprints
I can’t think of anything more exciting than seeing proof on Christmas morning that Santa’s been. Unfortunately, there’s a catch… he sees you when you’re sleeping, he knows when you’re awake, so staying asleep in bed is an important condition on receiving presents from Santa. Which is why leaving behind snowy evidence is so exciting! A good way of leaving behind some snowy prints that are both easy to prepare and just as easy to clean up is sprinkling some baking soda around an adult sized boot. The baking soda will give the impression that he’s dragged snow all the way from the North Pole across your living room floor.
At Cheeky Munchkins we love celebrating and encouraging creative learning.
